About Lia Mara
Blending artistry with mindfulness and a respect for nature
Growing up in England, Lia Mara always felt a deep connection to nature—the way light filters through trees, the quiet magic of a still lake, the sense of calm that only the natural world can provide. That deep appreciation never left her, even as she pursued a career in neuroscience, eventually earning a PhD. But in the fast-paced world of research, she found herself longing for something more—a way to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with that sense of wonder. She rediscovered it through painting.
"Each brushstroke became a meditation, a way to capture the beauty and mystery I saw in the world around me. Over time, my art evolved into something more—a way to invite others into that same dreamlike space, where reality and imagination blend together."
Through completing the Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute, Lia Mara refined her distinctive style, merging traditional techniques with her unique artistic voice. Now a full-time artist based in Germany, she creates ethereal, semi-abstract landscapes and portraits that feel both tranquil and otherworldly. Her work combines watercolours, oil paints, and delicate metallic accents, layering soft, luminous tones to evoke places that exist on the edge of reality—where unseen magic lingers in the air. Each piece offers viewers a quiet escape from the frenetic pace of daily life, drawing them into a world where calm prevails and encouraging them to pause and reflect.

Every piece is deeply tied to her love for nature, not just in inspiration but in practice. Committed to sustainability, Lia Mara uses eco-conscious materials, including linen canvases, non-toxic paints, and repurposed packaging. She believes that art should not only reflect the beauty of the natural world but also help to protect it.
"Art should feel good—not just emotionally, but in the way it exists in the world. I want people to know that the piece they bring into their home was created with care, both for them and for the planet."
With plans to further integrate eco-friendly practices into her art, she is a forward-looking artist whose work resonates with the growing desire for calm and sustainability in a busy world.
